After the clock struck 12 on New Year's Eve, many people appeared on the street with their suitcases in tow. Tradition has it, that if you do this, the year will be filled with lots of travels. Not sure how environmentally friendly this tradition is, unless you are walking that is.
We took a family trip off the Bogota "altiplano" to the low lands/warmer climate. The road snaked down along the Bogota river which is one of several rivers that Bogota dumps treated sewage into. Not surprisingly, the water was an ugly black and frothy.

Stopped for breakfast at a restaurant where we were served fresh arepas and hot chocolate.
We stopped at a zoo along the way, nestled into the hill. Marcos loved the birds and monkeys.

The town we had lunch at was called La Mesa (The Table). Here Marcos is awing at all the fresh fruit with his Tia Rosita. The fruit on the far left side below the watermelon is called "Tree Tomato/Tomate de Arbol". It is used to make juice, inside looks something like a tomato, and has a bit of the tomato flavour.
We also stopped at another small town and here in the plaza Marcos is running by the manger scene. Some of the figures were almost his size.
The view was spectacular.
Marcos had his second complete icecream cone, and definitely was more interested in finishing it off than looking at me for the picture. I was unable to pry the cone from his hand.
On our way back to Bogota.

And, the next day for another walk in the rain!
