Another big day! We learned that Marcos gained 150 grams since birth and is now 860 grams, a jump of 21%! That means the little boy is growing, and that is good because he has to do a lot of catching up do. Today also saw him receiving 3 more drops of breast milk and the removal of an artery line on his left forearm that measured blood pressure. He looked a lot more comfortable when it was off, but the process of getting it off was tough watching. He will be a tough kid when he grows up. Respirator levels for breaths per minute and volume were also turned down so Marcos is now a bit more in the driver’s seat. He also came off of caffeine and they gave him a very small dose of a sedative (phenobarb) to help him relax. When I said goodnight to him this evening, he seemed quite content. Today was also our first anniversary which we celebrated at an Ethiopian restaurant.
Otro día impresionante. Enteramos que Marcos había subido 150 gramos desde nacimiento y ahora tiene 860 gramos, una subida de 21%. Eso significa que el chico esta creciendo, y eso es importante porque aun tiene mucho para recuperar. Hoy día el también recibió 3 gotas mas de leche materna y a la vez, le quitaron una catéter de la arteria en su bracito izquierda, con la cual estaba midiendo su presión sanguínea. El se veía mucho mas cómodo sin ese catéter, pero el proceso de quitárselo fue difícil para verlo. Va a ser un chico bastante fuerte cuando crezca. Bajaron los niveles de respiración por minuto controlados por el ventilador, así que Marcos ahora esta un poco mas a cargo de su propia respiración. También le quitaron la cafeína que le estaban dando, y le dieron una dosis de un tranquilizante (fenobarbital) para ayudarlo a relejarse. Cuando fui a decirles buenas noches, se veía bastante tranquilo. Hoy día fue nuestro primer aniversario y lo celebramos en un restaurante etiope.
